Markham Irish Canadian Rugby Club (MICRC) provides positive rugby experiences for all age groups from Under 8 to Senior Men and Women. The Club was formed through the merging of the Markham Rugby Club and the Irish Canadian Rugby Club on January 30th, 2010. The Markham RFC was founded in 1980, and has competed in the Marshall and Keenan Divisions. The ICRC, founded in 1950, has an enviable record of cup and league success by its senior men and women teams.
MICRC is a non-share capital corporation incorporated under the Corporations Act (Ontario) MICRC is a not-for-profit organization within the meaning of paragraph 149(1)(l) of the Income Tax Act (Canada). The Letters Patent of Amalgamation of MICRC dated May 30, 2011, state the objects of MICRC in part as follows:
(a) The establishment and operation of a rugby football club for the purpose of:
i. promoting social and playing activities among the members of the MICRC;
ii. providing playing facilities and a club house for the accommodation of members of MICRC and their guests.
(b) Special Provisions: The corporation shall be carried on without the purpose of gain for its members and any profits or other accretions to the corporation shall be used in promoting its objects.
The Foundation and FFL have entered into a donation agreement (the “FFL Agreement”), effective June 1st 2021. Under the Fletcher’s Fields Limited Agreement, a fund (the “MICRC Legacy Fund”) was established. The MICRC Legacy Fund is intended to provide funding from its endowment, and from capital disbursements that continue the objects of FFL and MICRC. These include:
(a) To encourage and further the game of rugby in Ontario and Canada in accordance with the rules of World Rugby;
(b) To actively support rugby players and participants in the Province of Ontario by furnishing equipment, kit, and facilities for the game of rugby;
(c) To promote all forms of rugby recognized by World Rugby and to arrange matches and rugby competitions and to offer or grant and contribute towards prizes, awards, scholarships and honorariums related to playing rugby in the province of Ontario.
(d) To provide playing facilities and a club house for the accommodation of members of MICRC and their guests.
