The Druids Rugby Club of Edmonton, founded in 1960, and subsequently strategically aligned with the Sherwood Park Outlaws Rugby Football Club since 1996, has operated jointly as the Strathcona Druids Rugby Football Club since that time.
The Strathcona Druids RFC has established a Canadian Rugby Foundation fund supporting the facility development and rugby programs at the Lynn Davies Rugby Park in Sherwood Park, Alberta. The purpose of the Fund is to:
1. Invest in the short and medium terms (1-5 years) in the re-development of fields, facilities, and capital equipment to maintain a rugby park that will serve as a first-class centre for rugby development and competition that will exist into perpetuity. To this end, the Strathcona Druids will commit to a fundraising campaign with an aim to raise $250,000 over the first five years. It is expected that 90% of fundraising contributions in the first 5 years will be allocated to this purpose. This will augment $667,000 in federal funding that is being sought.
2. Invest on an ongoing basis in player development initiatives aimed at improving club, regional, provincial and national representation, funded by annual disbursements of 3.5% from the endowment fund. It is anticipated that 10% of all contributions in the first 5 years shall be retained for this endowment fund, increasing in proportion thereafter. A minimum balance of no less than $25,000 will be retained at all times with active ongoing contributions solicited to grow the balance.
