Established in February 2026, the Cowichan Rugby Club Legacy Capital Fund was created as a vehicle to accumulate monies for new capital projects, including the first two priorities of field lighting and clubhouse upgrades.
THE COWICHAN RUGBY CLUB
The Cowichan Rugby Club was founded in 1962, and has a colourful history predating that year, as illustrated in the following history:

COWICHAN RUGBY CLUB LEGACY CAPITAL FUND
The Cowichan Rugby Club Legacy Capital Fund is the latest development of the Legacy Fund created as an initiative of the club’s Long Term Planning Committee (LTPC). Their goal was to formalize a plan for the club grounds infrastructure and implement the upgrades with the approval from the Board of Executives. All funds accrued for this purpose have been set aside in a designated capital expenditures account to be used solely towards infrastructure updates. They do not go into the club’s general revenue to pay operation costs or any other consumables the club may need.
To facilitate this plan, the new Legacy Capital Fund at the Canadian Rugby Foundation will maintain the autonomous nature of the capital expenditure monies, but will do so under the professional oversight of the Foundation and its investment managers, Leith Wheeler. Most importantly, donations to the fund will be eligible for charitable tax receipts or as already done, for business expense receipts for donors using a business or corporation for their contribution. As the capital projects proceed, necessary disbursements from the fund can be made to suppliers and vendors to the project(s), the first of which will be field lighting, and clubhouse upgrades.
