With a sold out crowd of 60 attendees, the Canadian Rugby Foundation launched the first of an annual series of events to raise endowment funds for the Captains\u2019 Fund.<\/p>\n
The Captains\u2019 Fund was created to assist Rugby Canada in promoting the U20 program.\u00a0 With impetus and vision from former World Cup captain Mark Wyatt and an initial generous bequest from current Rugby Canada President the Captains Fund has grown to the largest individual fund within the Foundation. Held in Victoria on October 19, on the eve of the final ARC games, in excess of $25,000 is now added to the existing $220,000 endowment.<\/p>\n
Hosted by Matt MacNeil at his Bard and Banker pub, the MaGee room provided an ideal and intimate setting for the evening.\u00a0 With first class catering attendees were treated to a wide assortment of delectable offerings.<\/p>\n
The cocktail reception provided Patrons and invited guests to rub shoulders with \u00a0many former Canadian captains, players, and Rugby Canada Board members. Senior Men\u2019s National Team coach Crowley spoke to the importance of promoting rugby at this level and the need for continued support.<\/p>\n
Foundation chairman Mike Holmes remarked, \u201cWith the success of this event, it is our intention to continue efforts to not only raise the profile of the Foundation, but moreover, to ensure ongoing support of Rugby Canada\u2019s programs.\u00a0 We thank in particular Len Carson and his family and Mark Wyatt who provided the drive behind this event as well as those who participated and those who continue to support the Foundation\u201d.<\/p>\n
