UBC Old Boys Ravens Rugby Club<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The UBC Old-Boys Ravens Rugby Club was founded by alumni from the University of British Columbia who continued playing together as a rugby team after graduation. Despite being formed with the intention of only playing exhibition games against local clubs, the UBC alumni were forced by the league to become an official club in 1974.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the immediate years following its inauguration, a number of other important members joined the club, including Ian Kennedy and Al Borthwick.\u00a0 As the club was still in its infancy, its hallmark was multi-tasking members, players were also: coaches, club executives, tour managers, bar managers, rugby union reps, Vancouver Parks Board, and Jericho Sailing Centre reps,\u00a0 etc.\u00a0\u00a0 This strong tradition continues with current players taking on junior coaching and senior assistant coaching duties.<\/p>\n

Some of the founding members of the club include:\u00a0Spence McTavish, Barry Legh, Garth Henrikson, Rick Bourne, Preston Wiley, Ro Hindson, Rob (Mung) Greg, Jake Whitehead, Warrick Harrivel, Jack Shaw, and Rob Jenkins.<\/p>\n

The original clubhouse was located on West 4th Avenue near the current location of Jerry’s Cove Pub. The UBC Old-Boy Ravens currently occupy a beautiful clubhouse on the second floor of the Jericho Sailing Centre.<\/p>\n

The club has had much success since its founding in 1974. They were Premier Provincial Champions in 1981, 1985, 1990,\u00a0 1991, and 1994. As recently as 2018 and 2019 the Ravens were crowned Premier Provincial Club Champions, and in 2018 were also the Canadian Club Rugby Champions. They were also crowned\u00a02019 Premier Reserve Champions,\u00a0<\/span>2022 BC U19 Champions,\u00a0<\/span>2022 BC U15 Champions,\u00a0<\/span>2022 Premier Reserve Champions, 2<\/span>022-23 BC U18 Champions, and <\/span>2023 Premier Reserve Champions.<\/span><\/p>\n

UBC Old Boys Rugby Club Endowment Fund<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The UBC Old Boys Rugby Club Endowment Fund was established at the beginning of November, 2024 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Club, and its Anniversary Dinner on November 9.<\/p>\n

The Fund is intended to provide financial support to the club from its endowment earnings and donations, the latter of which are all charitable tax receipt-eligible.<\/p>\n
