Fund and Award Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Announced on the eve of Rick Bourne’s induction into
\nthe\u00a0BC Rugby Hall of Fame,\u00a0the Rick Bourne<\/strong>
\n Rugby Award\u00a0<\/strong>aims to support students of any gender
\nwho are\u00a0actively involved\u00a0in playing rugby in\u00a0Canada.
\nThis award recognizes the outstanding\u00a0contributions of
\nRick Bourne, a prominent figure in\u00a0the Canadian\u00a0rugby
\ncommunity\u00a0for over six decades. Rick Bourne’s leadership,
\npassion and generosity\u00a0have made a\u00a0significant impact on
\nrugby in\u00a0Canada, making this award a deserving tribute to his
\nlegacy.\u00a0The awards will be funded from donations to the
\nendowment fund and earnings on the fund’s assets.<\/p>\n

Rick Bourne’s extensive involvement as a player, coach, administrator, volunteer, director,
\nphilanthropist and leader within the Canadian rugby community has inspired the establishment of this
\naward. His remarkable leadership through rugby in Canada has left a lasting legacy. While many
\nexceptional leaders have emerged within Canadian rugby, Rick Bourne stands as one of the most
\nsuccessful, passionate and generous individuals the country has ever witnessed.<\/p>\n

Eligibility:<\/strong>
\nTo be eligible for the Rick Bourne Rugby Award, applicants must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Gender and Rugby Participation: Applicants must be students actively participating in rugby in
    \nCanada. The award is open to all genders. Whether involved in club or university rugby, the
    \naward is open to individuals dedicated to the sport.<\/li>\n
  2. Age Requirement: Applicants must be between 17 and 24 years of age.<\/li>\n
  3. Academic Enrollment: Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time or part-time degree (graduate
    \nor undergraduate), diploma or certificate program at a Canadian college or university. The
    \nprogram should commence in the academic year for which the award is granted. Students
    \nstarting their studies in the fall semester are eligible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    General Guidelines:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Reapplication: Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply in subsequent years.<\/li>\n
    2. Conditional Aweard: The award is contingent upon the acceptance and continuance of
      \nthe applicant’s chosen educational program. Verification of acceptance into the program will be
      \nrequired.<\/li>\n
    3. Application Submission:
      \na. Submit a completed application form from the Canadian Rugby Foundation.
      \nb. Attach a letter, not more than 250 words, describing the reasons why you would be a
      \nworthy recipient of the Rick Bourne Rugby Award. Include your contributions to the
      \nrugby community, how you have helped expand the game, other volunteer activities,
      \nyour academic achievements, your most important accomplishments and your future
      \ngoals;
      \nc. Attach two letters of reference from the two individuals named in your application. One
      \nmust be someone who has been involved with you in the rugby community;
      \nd. Attach a photograph in .jpg format. We would prefer if the applicant is wearing a rugby
      \njersey in the photo but that is not required (once submitted the photo will be the
      \nproperty of the Canadian Rugby Foundation).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      \u00a0 NOTE: Items 1 to 4 above must be e-mailed to cdnrugbyfoundation.financial@gmail.com to
      \ncomplete the award application.<\/p>\n

      4. Publicity and Promotion: The award recipient must consent to having their name and
      \nphotograph publicized. Additionally, they should be prepared to support the promotion of the
      \naward as requested.<\/p>\n

      Selection Criteria:<\/strong>
      \nThe selection of the Rick Bourne Rugby Award recipient will be based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Active Participation: Applicants must demonstrate active involvement in playing rugby and a
        \ncommitment to staying engaged in the sport.<\/li>\n
      2. Contribution to the Rugby Community: Applicants should exhibit a recognized contribution to
        \nboth the local community and the broader rugby community, showcasing their impact both on
        \nand off the field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Application Process: <\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Submit a completed application form;<\/li>\n
        2. Attach a letter, not more than 250 words, describing the reasons why you would be a worthy recipient of the Rick Bourne Rugby Award. Include your contributions to the rugby community, how you have helped expand the game, other volunteer activities, your academic achievements, your most important accomplishments and your future goals;<\/li>\n
        3. Attach two letters of reference from the two individuals named in your application. One must be someone who has been involved with you in the rugby community;<\/li>\n
        4. Attach a photograph in .jpg format.\u00a0 We would prefer if the applicant is wearing a rugby jersey in the photo but that is not required (once submitted the photo will be the property of the Canadian Rugby Foundation).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
