Dear Friends of Women’s Rugby,
It is with excitement and anticipation that I am sending you this update on our National Senior Women’s XV’s team. World Rugby has just posted their latest rankings and based on our performances in 2019 (8 test matches against top 5 teams) we have moved UP to #3 in the WORLD.
Exciting times for Women’s Rugby as World Rugby have launched a new “Women in Rugby” brand identity and global campaign aimed at driving increased participation and engagement among fans, audiences, players and investors in the women’s game. We in Canada hope this will lead to increase in FUNDING for Women’s Rugby long term…we will have to wait and see.
In the meantime, we are building to the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in fall 2021. We need to continue to train, develop, and have a robust competition schedule against the top teams in the world to ensure we are in the mix in 2021 and maintain/improve on our current rank. The Monty Heald Fund IS STILL NECESSARY and will continue to raise funds to support our amazing athletes and coaches and insure there is no pay to play. Note, these funds needed don’t even consider the cost to the individual in hours committed, time off work, putting school on hold etc. The commitment is still 100% from the players. There are great fixtures available to us next year all predicated on funding, we MUST compete!
The MHF is asking for your help. As you may know, 100% of your donation goes to the National Women’s XV program – we insure that. Our goal leading up to the RWC is to raise $400,000. We have done it before (2017) and we will do it again, with your support! Please give generously, all donations will receive a tax receipt from the Canadian Rugby Foundation.
